Noise Monitoring
Establishing the noise environment around a development is normally a prerequisite for planning applications and during the commissioning of projects. During construction, longer term compliance monitoring may be required. Sine Environmental undertake both short-term surveys and long term monitoring. We design and implement bespoke monitoring solutions taking into account the specific circumstances of the project and stakeholders. We utilise state of the art monitoring equipment, and can set up interactive (web-based) monitoring with flexible SMS alerts if levels are breached.
Modelling & Prediction
Sine Environmental uses advanced 3D modelling software packages for the prediction of noise impacts from railways, roads, aircraft, industrial premises, construction projects and M&E equipment. We also predict operational ground-borne vibration and noise arising from construction and quarrying operations, including blasting, and the operation of railways (including underground). We can design and model bespoke mitigation for noise and vibration issues during feasibility, planning or later design stages, or for preventative / corrective action post commissioning.
EIA, HIA and HRA
The directors at Sine Environmental have over 20 years of experience in the development and application of methodologies, health-based assessment criteria and the monetisation of environmental noise and vibration impacts. We provide comprehensive assessments in accordance with policies and standards at local, national, European and World Bank levels. We work as part of EIA teams on numerous projects, working within interdisciplinary, political and commercial constraints.
Planning
Sine Environmental has a proven track record in dealing with complex planning issues, where noise is a material consideration, and has in-depth knowledge of all the relevant standards and guidance documents relating to noise. We have prepared numerous technical reports in support of successful planning applications for residential, industrial, commercial and leisure developments of various sizes. Additionally we have a depth of experience in many road and railway schemes, national airport expansion in addition to gas and nuclear power operations. Experience has been derived both in the UK and internationally.
Expert Witness
We have considerable experience in the preparation of technical evidence for planning meetings, hearings, Governmental commissions, planning inquiries and DCOs. Expert witness services include appearance at pre-inquiry meetings, written briefings for and conferences with Counsel, the preparation and presentation of proofs of evidence as part of expert testimony. Our experience in this area is wide-ranging, from planning for a new cattle-grid, wind farms, road and guided transport schemes, to the expansion of primary national airports.
Building and Architectural Acoustics
Sine Environmental has experience in providing acoustical design advice on major building projects including the specification of building envelope sound insulation; party wall and floor / ceiling constructions; treatments to preserve communication privacy, speech intelligibility in room spaces (including public address and voice alarm), treatments to achieve desired reverberation targets.
We can provide design advice to developers to minimise the risk that floor/ceiling or party wall constructions eventually fail the numerical sound insulation or sound impact tests once constructed.

Sam Williams, founder of Sine Environmental, has 20 years' experience providing acoustic advice on planning, permitting, acoustic design, and construction matters. He is experienced at preparing environmental statements, and has provided evidence at a number of planning appeals and public inquiries.
